Hallberg-Rassy 48 Mk II in harbour
Boats & ideas

Hallberg-Rassy: what makes a cruising yacht a long-distance idea?

For this project, boats are not status symbols but technical systems. The interesting question is therefore less about the brand name and more about which decisions support long journeys with a small crew.

Hallberg-Rassy traces its roots back to the Hallberg yard founded in 1943. The yard describes its concept as yachts designed for worldwide cruising that can be handled by a small crew. One historically influential example was the Rasmus, introduced in 1967, with a protected cockpit, powerful engine and large tanks.

Interesting for El Shalom: cockpit protection, maintainability, storage space, tank capacity and small-crew handling are not brochure details – they determine how a boat works in everyday use.
