Scalar: craftsmanship, wood and a different kind of series production

What is interesting about Scalar is how far individualisation can go within a small production series.

The Henningsen & Steckmest yard in Kappeln has built Scalar yachts in small series since 1973. According to the yard, the deck and interior are built piece by piece in wood and largely by hand; the equipment can be tailored extensively to the individual owner.

The Scalar 34 as an example

The yard describes the Scalar 34 as a fast, offshore-capable cruiser that should also be easy to handle with a small crew. It is precisely this combination of traditional interior work, individual solutions and practical handling that makes it an interesting model for thinking about a future project boat.
